How do I convert hectares to acres, kg to lb or c/kg to $/cwt?

Use our free Farm unit converter: land area, weight, livestock prices, seed, fertilizer and spray rates, liters and gallons, hp and kW, and °C and °F. For example, 1 hectare is about 2.47 acres and 1 kg is about 2.2 lb. Open the Farm unit converter →

When will my cows calve or my ewes lamb?

Use our free Livestock due date calculator: pick cattle, sheep, goats, pigs or horses, enter the mating or joining date and it shows the average due date, the usual range and a “watch from” date, and can add them to your phone calendar. Averages only - your vet knows your animals best. Open the due date calculator →

How many fence posts and how much wire do I need?

Use our free Fencing calculator: enter the pasture length and width (or a straight fence length), your post spacing, number of wires, gates and the meters of wire on your roll. It estimates the posts, the wire with a little extra for tying off, the number of rolls and the pasture area in hectares and acres. It is an estimate for flat ground - check with your supplier or contractor before you buy. Open the Fencing calculator →

Do you have free tools for farmers?

Yes - free on the website, no account needed: a farm unit converter, a feed budget calculator, a feed cost comparer, a grazing rotation planner, a fuel use calculator, a seeding rate calculator, a fertilizer calculator, a spray tank mix calculator, a livestock sale value calculator, a marking and weaning % calculator, a silo capacity calculator, a water tank and pond calculator, a rain gauge diary, a farm storm and disaster plan, a fencing calculator, a livestock due date calculator and a farm words glossary. They work on a phone and nothing you type is stored. See all handy tools →

Is there a REALM Group America app?

Yes - a free app for your phone, tablet, Windows PC or Mac. There is no app store and no account: open the Get the app page and follow the 3 or 4 steps for your device, and REALM sits on your home screen with your farm tools one tap away. Get the app →

How much hay or feed do I need for my stock?

Use our free Feed budget calculator: enter the number of head, the days you need to feed, their average body weight in pounds, the daily intake (as a % of body weight, often about 2–2.5% for a dry beef cow), your hay’s dry matter % from the forage test, the feeding waste and the weight of one bale. It estimates the tons and bales to have on hand, bales a day, and with your price per ton the cost per head per day. Metric is one tap away. It is a quantity estimate only - talk to your vet, county Extension office or nutritionist about the ration itself. Open the Feed budget calculator →

How many bags of fertilizer do I need, and how much N, P and K is that?

Use our free Fertilizer calculator: enter your product rate in lb per acre, the acres, the bag and spreader size and the grade on the bag (like 18-46-0: N, P₂O₅ and K₂O %, plus sulfur if listed). It shows the tons, bags and spreader loads, and the pounds of N, P₂O₅ and K₂O you put on an acre and in all - plus the cost if you enter what you pay a ton. Metric (kg/ha) is one tap away. It only does the arithmetic: a soil test and your county Extension office or crop adviser are the best guide to the rate. Open the Fertilizer calculator →

How much chemical goes in each spray tank?

Use our free Spray tank mix calculator: enter the area, your water rate (L/ha), tank size and the label rate of up to three products. It shows how many tank loads the job takes and a mixing sheet with the product for every full tank and the part-filled last tank. It only does the arithmetic - always read and follow the product label. Open the Spray tank mix calculator →

What seeding rate should I use in lb per acre?

Use our free Seeding rate calculator: enter the plants per acre you want, seeds per pound from the seed tag and your germination and stand establishment %. It works out the seeds to plant per acre and per sq ft, the rate in lb/acre (and kg/ha), and the seed and bags for your field. Metric (plants per m², thousand seed weight) is one tap away. The right plant stand depends on your crop and region, so check with your county Extension office, agronomist or seed dealer. Open the Seeding rate calculator →

Which feed is cheapest - hay, corn silage or grain?

Use our free Feed cost comparer: enter each feed’s price per ton as fed, dry matter % and (if you have it) TDN % from the forage test. It ranks up to four feeds by cost per pound of TDN (energy), or per ton of dry matter, so wet and dry feeds are compared fairly. Metric ($ per tonne, MJ of energy) is one tap away. Price is only part of the choice - ask your nutritionist or county Extension agent about the ration. Open the Feed cost comparer →

How do I work out my lamb marking or calf branding %?

Use our free Marking & weaning % calculator: pick sheep/goats or cattle and enter the females joined, the young counted at scanning (optional), the young marked or branded and the young weaned (optional). It shows your scanning, marking and weaning % per female joined, how many young were lost between each step and - if you enter your own target - how many more you would need. It is arithmetic on your own counts, not a benchmark. Open the marking & weaning calculator →

How much are my cattle worth at a $/cwt price?

Use our free Livestock sale value calculator: enter the head, average weight in pounds and the bid in dollars per hundredweight (cwt) - live, or dressed (in the beef) with a dressing % - plus commission, checkoff, yardage and trucking. It shows the value per head, the total, what you keep after costs and the net $/cwt live weight, so you can compare a sale barn, a private treaty and a grid bid. Metric (kg, c/kg) is one tap away. Use your sale barn’s or buyer’s bid for the price. Open the sale value calculator →

How many bushels does my grain bin hold?

Use our free Grain bin & silo capacity calculator: enter the diameter, eave height, hopper cone and roof peak heights in feet and the grain’s test weight (lb per bushel, like 56 for corn). It shows the bushels and tons when full and, from the grain depth, how many bushels are in it now. Metric (m³, tonnes) is one tap away. Check the maker’s capacity plate too - and never enter a bin to measure. Open the Grain bin & silo capacity calculator →

How much fuel will the next job use?

Use our free Fuel use calculator: enter the liters a job used, the hectares you covered and (if you like) the engine hours. It shows liters per hectare, per acre and per hour, then the fuel, tank fills and hours for the next job of the same kind - and the cost if you enter what you pay a liter. We don’t show fuel prices. Open the Fuel use calculator →

How long should my stock stay in each pasture?

Use our free Grazing rotation planner: enter your number of paddocks, the rest you want each one to get, paddock size in acres, the herd (head, body weight in lb, daily intake) and the forage going in and to leave behind in lb of dry matter per acre. It shows how many days each paddock feeds the herd, the rest each paddock gets, days a lap, how many paddocks you would need, animal units, stock density and AUD per acre. Metric is one tap away. It is arithmetic on your own numbers - walk the pastures and ask your county Extension or NRCS office about the right residual for your pasture. Open the Grazing rotation planner →

How much water is in my tank or pond, and how long will it last?

Use our free Water tank & pond calculator: pick a round tank, a stock tank or trough, or a pond or dugout, enter its size in feet and the water depth now. It shows the gallons when full (and acre-feet for a pond), the gallons in it now and - if you enter the gallons you use a day - roughly how many days it will last. One tap switches to meters and liters. Ponds also lose water to evaporation and seepage, so keep a margin. Open the Water tank & pond calculator →

Can I keep a record of my rainfall?

Yes - use our free Rain gauge diary. Add each reading in mm or inches (with a note if you like) and it shows the last 7 days, this month, this year and a chart of the last 12 months. It is saved only in your own browser on that device - we never see it - so download a copy (a CSV file for Excel or Google Sheets) now and then. Open the Rain gauge diary →

What is my break-even price per bushel?

Use our free Crop break-even calculator. Pick the crop, enter your acres, expected yield and price, and your costs per acre - seed, fertilizer, crop protection, fuel and repairs, crop insurance, drying and hauling, land rent and overhead. It shows the price per bushel and the yield per acre you need to cover those costs, what you make or lose per acre and across the field, the price you need for the profit you want, and a what-if grid for yield and price. Start from your own records or your state Extension crop budget; nothing you type is stored. Open the Crop break-even calculator →

How does a flexible cash rent lease work?

A flexible (flex) cash lease pays a guaranteed base rent and moves the rest of the rent with the year’s yield and price. Common ways: base rent plus a bonus share of gross revenue above a trigger, rent as a percent of gross revenue (never below the base), or base rent multiplied by actual yield ÷ base yield and actual price ÷ base price - often with a floor and a cap. Our free Cash rent & flexible lease calculator works out this year’s rent under each method, compares it with a fixed cash rent and shows what it leaves the tenant. For local rents see the USDA NASS Cash Rents by County survey and your state Extension cash rent survey. It is a planning guide, not legal advice - have the lease reviewed before you sign. Open the Cash rent & flexible lease calculator →

How do I get my farm ready for a hurricane, tornado, blizzard, flood or wildfire?

Use our free Farm storm & disaster plan. Pick the risk - hurricanes, tornadoes, winter storms, floods, wildfires or heat and drought - and tick off the steps before the season, when a watch is out (get ready), when a warning is out (act now) and after the storm, when you photograph damage and call your county FSA office and crop insurance agent. It also has a farm emergency card to fill in and print. Your ticks stay on your own device. Always follow your local emergency managers and the National Weather Service.
